The European Union Parliament has voted to effectively ban the sale of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE) from 2035 onwards. As of 2035, only new vehicles that produce zero tailpipe emissions will be allowed to be sold in the EU. This includes electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that can travel a certain distance on electric power alone.The ban on new ICE vehicles is part of a broader effort by the EU to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
